The Belt Makers 20th Anniversary Drinks and Nibbles
Join us for some Glorious nibbles (from The Glorious, next door) and a glass of something while you relax in our cosy belty atmosphere while we all celebrate.
2023 marks The Belt Makers' 20th anniversary. Having been making belts since 2003, and especially given the last few years of economic uncertainty, we thought that this anniversary was well and truly worth celebrating!
In order to do so we have arranged one or two (or three) quietly exciting events.
The first is our FREE, 20th Anniversary Prize Draw, for the chance to win the incredible piece of craftsmanship that is our Signature Piece, the British Spirit Belt.
The British Spirit design came about while we at TBM were being swept along by the atmosphere and inspiration generated by the London 2012 Olympics and the volunteer Gamesmakers, without whom the Games could not have been held. This design soon became a beautiful demonstration of our skills and we've been selling it ever since.
Where a Classic Belt (made to measure currently £129) will take up to two hours from start to finish, the processes in the British Spirit will involve this piece being on the bench for up to three days. It is currently priced at £499.
We are giving away one, made to measure, British Spirit Belt to the lucky winner and our second event is the Live Draw during the TBM 20th Anniversary Drinks and Nibbles.
During this Nibbles event, you will be the very first to see the third bit of excitement, the launch of our Brand New 20th Anniversary Range! Orders from this range will be discounted on the night and, I can promise you, this includes a little something that we've never tried before...
We have limited space as you know, so do please grab a ticket if you'd like to join us, on Friday 15th September, from 5.30 to 7.30pm. As I mentioned, there will be drinks and nibbles, so if anyone who's coming has any dietary needs, please do email me.

A fully integrated website that combines both our bespoke and off the peg, own brand belts; alongside the amazing products that we began to bring you when we discovered so many of our fellow craftspeople losing their outlets during Covid-19.
The devastation wrought on families who lost loved ones to the virus didn't stop there. Its effects were felt across every industry and we found ourselves in a position where we could help a little.
We began to offer space in our new, larger shop to those who had no physical place to show their wares. Having created a brand new website for them, over time we've begun to settle on the curation of a collection of products that are suited to the thoughtful professional - be they office or studio based - who chooses function first, and thoroughly appreciates the care, effort and heart that goes into the form.

TBM's Hand Made Laced Belts
Our newest range of belts has landed!
Double and single laced belts, made with an extraordinary attention to detail.
Each of the laces has been thinned, then the edges individually coloured and buffed to match the edge on the main body of the belt.
The strap holes are each made by hand, as we do for the buckle holes, then the lacing is threaded, again by hand, in and out of the holes. This pattern is painstakingly repeated along the length of the back portion of the belt strap. The ends are securely hand sewn into place.

An interactive and immersive evening at Exeter’s Historic Guildhall on the High Street, where guests will find active displays, to help them truly imagine how their day could look, alongside a traditional fayre at Exeter Castle with stalls and displays.

The eagerly awaited local flea market is back, and this time it's online:

There is no need for us to worry about Fore Street winds blowing our stands away, and we are all guaranteed the option of browsing even if it rains. Pyjamas are to be encouraged; drinks and snacks of your choice are optional!
The online platform has been created by the wonderful team at InExeter and it goes live tomorrow from 12-4pm... just press the picture to visit the page.
You'll be able to take a virtual wander up and down the street, where you can select the icon for each business. A pop up will open which says a bit about the business, and you may or may not be able to take advantage of a special Virtual Fore Street Flea discount code... that will also work on both our websites, for any item on that day!

British Spirit sales for Charity
Our Signature Piece: the British Spirit.
Our British Spirit was born from a time, not unlike this one in many ways. It was inspired by the sense of team spirit that was exhibited by the players, supporters and volunteers that were ‘Team GB’ at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The red, white and blue stitching represents the colours on the British Union Flag or ‘Union Jack’.
When the volunteer Games Makers made the London 2012 Olympics happen, their selfless energy and skills were given so that we could benefit from the history being made. Sound familiar?
We love to make this belt and are very proud of it. The Raise style enables us to safely secure all the start and finish ends for each of the three decorative thread colours on the inside.
Each of the red, the white and the blue stitches - always in that order - are painstakingly hand sewn with a long back stitch, evenly along the full length of each side and around the tip. When done correctly this produces a candy cane style of striping along the inside.
A piece of thinned leather will sit between the two rows of candy stripes and the top layer can then be sewn onto a base piece, producing the raised effect.
A lot of work, as you can appreciate!

Like those amazing, proud Games Makers of 2012 - but this time with utmost, awe-inspiring bravery - the doctors, nurses and other members of our NHS risk their lives in British Spirit in this historic time of pandemic.

TBM’s Marie runs London Marathon in Exeter for local charity
I’m not a runner. Never have been. Having been swept along by the atmosphere while watching the 2019 London Marathon in my dressing gown (an annual occurrence) I entered… and in the October learned that I had got in.
My mission is now to raise funds and awareness for the Exeter CITY Community Trust, the charity arm of our very own Exeter City Football Club.

TBM's Marie is running for Exeter CITY Community Trust in the London Marathon 2020

Tackling my first half marathon today in Falmouth, Cornwall. Let's hear it for the Falmouth crowd!
I'm continuing to train for the London Marathon which has been postponed until Sun 4th October 2020 in aid of the Exeter CITY Community Trust and would of course really appreciate any donations you can manage.

Yes, there was a slight pause in training over Christmas and I've found a bit of ballast at the rear. On my return to training, there's definitely more going on behind than there was before. It's OK, it'll go soon.

Friday 11th October 2019 - Running the Marathon:
Marie has gained a place in the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon.
She's a bit stunned, hasn't run since high school (they were called secondary schools back then), would like to run for a local Exeter cause and is currently inviting nominations for the best local charity, CIC or good cause.

Vintage Fashion Show
#EFBW: THE VINTAGE FASHION SHOW PRESENTED BY FROCKS IN SWING TIME
THURSDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 7PM – 10PM
New for 2019 Exeter Fashion and Beauty week will include an incredible ‘Vintage Fashion Show.’
The event will include styles from the 20s, 40s and 50s with women’s fashion from Frocks in Swing Time and men’s fashion from The Real McCoy and Zebel Bespoke. With real models spanning the generations and a variety of body shapes and sizes the event will be inclusive and a great way for people keen to try out vintage styles.
Pop-up beauty, hair and styling advice and products will be on hand, with hair styling from The Den, fantastic bespoke headwear from milliner Rivka Jacobs and more. Nightingale Music will also be on hand to entertain with vocals from Terrie May McNulty to create a truly vintage experience.

TBM on Tour
There's a lot of making going on at the home of TBM at the moment... we have a good sized space to fill with our stunning creations at the Salon Privé Concours d'Elégance on the South Lawn at Blenheim Palace from 5th - 8th September 2019.
We are creating new ranges to take along; of course we will have our recently launched ZEEK collaboration Carbon Fibre range and, if that wasn't enough, we will have a brand new, limited edition colour scheme which we are launching at the event itself.
We will need to shut the shop from 3rd to 7th September so that we can travel to and assemble our stand according to the requirements at Salon Privé; we are very sorry if this extra closure causes any inconvenience! Please contact us if it does and we'll do our best to help.

What a lovely surprise! For the second year running we have made it into the Finals for the Exeter Living Awards. We are incredibly proud and humbled to think that we are worthy, especially given the calibre of the other businesses in our category.
Exeter Living is particularly proud of this year's awards; ''The Exeter Living Awards are the business highlight of the city. These are the most prestigious, most tightly contested Awards with the greatest number of local companies involved. Winning an Exeter Living Award is a powerful accolade.''

The shop and office will close for Christmas at 3pm Saturday 22nd December for a well earned break! We reopen at 10am Tuesday January 8th.
Of course, the website is always open and you can browse and buy on there as usual; we'll respond as soon as we can from 8th January.

Meet the Maker!
On Sunday 18 November, between 11am and 5pm, you are invited to meet our National Award winning Belt Maker, Mark Buckfield!
We'll bring the magic of the Belt Maker's bench to the Fore Street shop, where you can attend one of several demos throughout the day to see how our belts are made. You will have the chance to ask Mark questions and even discuss your own ideas.
There will also be special offers, mince pies and a free prize draw for your chance to win one of our Bespoke Border Belts*!

Due to weather conditions the Fore Street Flea Sept 23rd will no longer take place on Sunday 23rd September. This decision has been made by the organisers due to the health and safety of both stakeholders and customers.
Should stall holders wish to be refunded, this can be collected from Monday 24th September from Willow Hilson, Vintage Boutique on Fore Street. If you do not collect your refund within 14 days this will be donated to Exeter Foodbank

Indie Exeter are very excited to launch the 2nd Fore Street Flea of 2018, on Sunday 23rd September from 12-4pm.
The forecast is wet so Bring a Brolly and expect a fabulous range of gazebo stall holders including bric-à-brac, craft, plants, a wonderful array of food along with a vintage car display and much more!
A [moving] car free Fore Street is a wonderful thing, so come and enjoy a community day on this wonderful street; our shop and many others will be open!

The Belt Makers is a family business and will be taking a brief holiday from August 11th to August 18th inclusive.

The Belt Makers at Exeter Christmas Market
Exeter's hugely popular Christmas market on Cathedral Green will, for the first time, be operated by Exeter Cathedral themselves. This year, focusing on the West Front of the Cathedral, the market still has a ‘Continental’ feel but also enables customers to support local businesses and performers.
An exciting mix of local and continental traders, showcasing the best of festive food, crafts and gifts, will be open for the full market duration.
The Exeter Business Improvement District (BID) contains over 640 businesses and this year the Exeter BID teamed up with the Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market to enable local business to operate at the market for a limited trading period, in the 'BID Village'. We are one of them and are very excited to be part of it. As ever, we will be able to accept cash, cards (including American Express) and of course the Exeter Pound, which only local independent businesses are able to be part of.
The Fore Street shop will be open as well during 2-17th December but will need to close between 12-1pm for changeover! Sorry for any inconvenience... we are happy to arrange for you to collect orders from us at the market, do please just let us know.
